150TH CELEBRATIONS

As we celebrate 150 years of Cranleigh education, we reflect on the School’s extraordinary history as well as our current successes and exciting future. Within the pages of this special sesquicentennial site you will find a timeline of key events and development, a history of the School in 150 objects and a closer look at some of the most notable Old Cranleighans. Together they present a unique overview of our history to date.

September 1867

The Michaelmas Term – still referred to as simply “the third term” began on Friday, September 13 with 173 boys in the School, 23 over the official capacity. Houses along Horseshoe Lane were used for the overspill. There were also two new masters; BA Watson, of St. John's College, Cambridge, to supply the place vacated by Mr. Poore, who had resigned at the end of the summer, and Mr. Tayler to act as “music instructor”
