Fireplace

In Dining Hall, surmounted by the motto in old Lombardic letters carved in stone under the school arms: ‘Warm heart makyth warm hearth’. While the fire warmed the room in the days before any central heating, those who were sitting too close to it often complained of being roasted while there were constant gripes that the chimney belched sooty fumes even when not lit. The fire was last used in 1945.
